Suffolk County staple Pigs on a Wing on North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst was chosen as Long Island’s top spot for soul food and Southern options.
Each year, the Bethpage Best of LI polls Long Islanders to lay down a roadmap “to the best, top-notch businesses and services throughout both Nassau and Suffolk counties.”
Organizers of the contest have been counting votes since it began, with the winners ultimately chosen by the Long Islanders who rely on those businesses each and every day.
“Homemade fast food sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s exactly what you’ll find at Pigs on a Wing,” pollsters said. “(The) restaurant’s extensive menu offers fare for the barbecue aficionado and much more, from fried chicken platters and racks of ribs to classic sandwiches and seafood specials.”
They highlighted chef Kurt Satzinger, a man from a family of cooks who took to the kitchen after 15 years in the music business to start preparing comfort barbecue to New Yorkers.
"My father and all his brothers owned traditional NY delis, and I learned what good food and good service is from them," he wrote on the restaurant's website. "My mom was and is always fooling around with traditional recipes, always having her own twist or style.
"So after 15 years in the music business, this is my take on NY Comfort BBQ. A mix of my Grandma's traditional deli recipes and years of sitting on the couch watching Food Network
